Extract Text from PDF (Copy & Pull Out Text)

Read the body of a PDF and pull it out as plain text. Handy for when “you can't copy text from a PDF.” Everything runs entirely in your browser, and your PDFs are never uploaded.

This tool pulls out the embedded text data in a PDF. It cannot extract text from PDFs whose pages are images, such as photos or scans (in that case, try “Image to Text (OCR)”).

How to use

Just select the PDF you want to pull text from and click “Extract text.” It takes a little longer for PDFs with many pages. You can copy the extracted text or save it as a .txt file.

Note: All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your PDFs are never uploaded to a server. For PDFs with columns or tables, the reading order may differ from the original layout.

FAQ

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Extraction happens entirely in your browser (on your own device), and your PDFs are never sent anywhere. Safe even for confidential documents.

I can't pull text from a scanned PDF.

PDFs whose pages are images (scans or photos) have no text data, so nothing can be extracted. In that case, use the “Image to Text (OCR)” tool to read them.

I'm getting garbled characters or jumbled order.

With PDFs that use unusual embedded fonts or complex multi-column layouts, garbled characters or a jumbled reading order can occasionally occur.

Is it free to use?

Yes, it's free with no sign-up.
