Image to Text (OCR & Transcription)

Read text inside photos, screenshots and scanned images and turn it into text. Supports Japanese and English. All processing happens entirely in your browser, and images are never uploaded.

The first run takes a little while as it loads the text-recognition engine (about 20MB). After that it works even offline. The cleaner and larger the text in the image, the more accurately it can be read.

How to use

Pick an image containing text, choose the language to read, and press Read text. The first run takes a little while to load the engine. Once read, you can copy the text or save it as .txt.

* All processing happens entirely in your browser. Images are never uploaded to a server. Handwriting and blurry, small or tilted text can be harder to read.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded?

No. All text recognition happens inside your browser (on your device), and images are never sent anywhere. Safe even for confidential documents.

How can I improve accuracy?

The larger, sharper and more level the text, the more accurate the result. Crop to just the part you need and use a bright, high-contrast image to improve it.

Can it read text from a scanned PDF?

First export the PDF as an image, then load it into this tool. If the PDF already has embedded text, the PDF to Text extractor is more reliable.

Is it free to use?

Yes, it's free with no sign-up required.
